Statement

For me the ideal artwork is something to fall in love with. It should be self-evident, organic- like, meaning this artwork is the only way it can be, the only way it could be made. It should have power like a sacred object, something you want to return to again and again. Every time you look at the artwork it gives you something to take with you.

I wrote these rules beneath for myself, to read when I make my art, a reminder for myself where I want to go with my art. It doesn’t mean I achieve this each all the time, but it is something I aim for:

- Painting, making art, should feel like rock-and-roll

- Art is about now, without forgetting the past

- Minimalistic without losing the poetry

-Make the art you need

- Expand beauty

Vita

Nicolet Boots' latest collection of works is called 'Nomadic Vases'.  Vases are formed out of a combination of concrete, fine porcelain-like casting compound and wax. The result are vulnerable looking vases, with a strong personal character.

The figurative sculptures are made out of porcelain-like casting compound and radiate strength, vulnerability and joy with their large feet and quirky, feeble poses.

Nicolet Boots' painting and sculpture skills were formed by numerous art courses, among others, at the College of Art in Edinburgh. In her work the artist is using her almost photographic eye, looking the right moment : that split second where a person reveals something important and personal about her or his inner life.

After having lived in several European countries, Nicolet Boots now lives and works in Munich, Germany. In 2011 her work on paper 'I'll do it anyway' was bought by the Bayerische Staatsgemälde Sammlung. Other works are in private collections in Scotland, Denmark, Netherlands and Germany.
