How it all began
The idea of a network for sculptors, art mediators and patrons of sculpture stemmed from the sculptor, Hartmut Stielow, who experienced the effectiveness and value of such an association on the Board of the International Sculpture Center (ISC) in the USA.
In the year 2002 he began to consider with like-minded individuals the actual realisation of a similar European organization.
In 2003 he met a passionate collaborator in the person of Ralf Kirberg, a businessman who, aside from his position as a manager in industry, was ardently involved in the cultural field, particularly as a collector of art.
Practice soon proved, however, that the American model, coming from a unified language and cultural background, was not readily transferrable to Europe, with its great diversity.
In the year 2004, on January 21st, the organisation entitled ?sculpture network? was founded.
