In the late 1960s, the term "anti-form" meant the disentigration of the traditional sculpture and art concepts, which opened new doors for aesthetic practices. This thorough scrutiny was followed by another wave of new sculptures in the 1980s and 1990s that continues to date.

The exhibition Anti / Form shows the tension between development and redefinition of the concept of sculpture based on significant examples of the important MUMOK collection.

Works of completely different protagonists from several decades illustrate how a new vocabulary is created as the result of a formative radical gesture. What initially seemed outrageous in the context of Robert Morris' Manifest Anti-Form and Harald Szeemann's exhibition When Attitudes Become Form, is today the important and fundamental basis of an increasingly globalized art world.

The MUMOK and its collection is the first federal museum to be a guest in Graz, and  not coincidentally this takes place at the beginning of the Jubilee Year in the Universal Museum Joanneum, in the course of which, during the reopening of the Neue Galerie Graz in the Joanneumsviertel, the presentation of its own collection of modern art will also a play significant role.
