Sculptures in Bad Homburg and Frankfurt Rhine-Main
From 22 May to 3 October of this year, the eighth edition of the Bad Homburg
exhibition series Blickachsen ("lines of sight") will be shown. Through installation of large contemporary sculptures, the spa gardens and the castle grounds, accessible for everyone, once again become the venue of this exciting art project.
Every two years, "Lines of sight" brings not only some of the most interesting works of international contemporary sculpture to Bad Homburg, but also illuminates the design of the historic parks through judicious placement of the works. Conversely, the landscape and architectural environment underline the artistic expression of the sculptures, inspire a dynamic reinterpretation of the works, or form the starting point for artistic reflection for site-specific works established for "Lines of sight".
"Lines of sight 8" will again show works by well-known as well as promising young artists.
You can already look forward to the selection, because the names – as in all “Lines of sight” exhibitions – will first be revealed at the opening.
The open-air exhibition "Lines of sight" is designed by the City of Bad Homburg, the Kur-und Kongress-GmbH, the management of State Palaces and Gardens of Hessen, and the Galerie Scheffel as a solid cultural dimension in the Rhine-Main region every two years, and is under the auspices of the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier.
Each of the "Lines of sight" exhibitions acquires new impetus as part of the exhibition concept by the curatorial collaboration between Christian Scheffel, founder of the series, and other museum partners. So far, these partners have included the sculpture museum Glaskasten in Marl, the Foundation Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg, the Kunsthalle Mannheim, the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, the British Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the American Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.
This year's exhibition "Lines of sight 8" will be designed together with the renowned Dutch Museum Beelden an Zee (www.beeldenaanzee.nl) and its director, Jan Teeuwisse.
On behalf of the Cultural Fund Frankfurt Rhine-Main, this year’s "Lines of sight" now not only includes the park but also extends beyond Bad Homburg to other locations in the Rhine-Main area. In addition to Bad Homburg, venues will also include Darmstadt, Eschborn, and Frankfurt, where concentrated exhibitions of distinctive large sculptures will be shown, including new works by artists, both of those who are respected internationally as well as those whose works in previous “Lines of sight” exhibitions have aroused particular interest.
Catalogue: The exhibition "Lines of Sight 8" is accompanied by a richly illustrated catalog with text by Jan Teeuwisse, director of the Museum Beelden aan Zee and co-curator of "Lines of sight 8.
The catalog will be available in summer 2011 and will be available at www.blickachsen.de or at the Gallery Scheffel in Bad Homburg.
