More than 2800 collectors from 82 different countries have been active and use this platform as exhibition space for their private collections. The first global network for collectors of contemporary art offers members an almost infinite, free exhibition place, which reaches enthusiast all over the world. Almost 10.000 pieces from private collections in Germany, USA, GB, Italy and Spain have been shown in 1.000 exhibitions. It is the largest online exhibition platform for contemporary art in private hands.

 

The focus is not on selling art, but to encourage exchange of ideas and connecting the collectors? community. Beside the free exhibition space you can also communicate via blogs and through individual events. The newsletter and event advises point out the special bond of the collectors. It is also about transparency of the private art market; however every member decides how much information they want to publish. Therefore every collector can decide who can see their collection.

 

History

 

Christian Schwarm, Ulrich Grothe and Uwe Thomas founded the community in May 2008 in Berlin. Independent collectors has been the first online platform for private collectors of contemporary art. The membership is free and includes the possibility to connect with other collectors and start own online exhibitions. One third of the members chose to be anonymous the rest publishes their names.

 

Christian Schwarm is a collector of contemporary art himself. With the help and advice from the network he would have been able to build up his collection a lot faster he said. His personal passion combined with Ulrich Grothe and Uwe Thomas made this happen.
