Juan Muñoz. Retrospective? im Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao (E)

Juan Munoz sculptures have an extraordinary physical presence in which silence and loneliness play a very important part. His acrobats, dwarfs, dancers and Asian types stand next to the famous human figures with globate basis. They seem to interact and communicate with each other ? that?s why they are known as the ?Escenas der conversacion?.

Juan Munoz (Madrid, 1953 ? Ibiza, 2001) has been one of the most important Spanish sculptors. From 1984, the year of his first single exhibition, until his early death 16 years later he only had a liwithed in order to produce an exceptional piece of art. After receiving the Premio Nacional der Artes Plasticas in 2000 he had been invited to the Turbine Hall at Tate modern art in London as the first Spanish artist ever. He died two month later at the peak of his career just before a big retro perspective was about to open at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington.

The exhibition is open till 28th September, and then from 31st October 2009 until 18th January 2010 at the Fandacion Serralves; Oporto.
