Glowing glass, which looks like aliens can been seen from 1. August at the ZKM Karlsruhe. ?Hallucigenia? is the name of these creatures of Austrian artist Martin Walde and that?s also the name of the exhibition at the ZKM Museum for new arts.

This group of ?Hallucigenia-sculptures? has been made especially for this exhibition: Thin walled glas bodies which are filled with several different gases and are made to shine through high frequency technology. They are made to look like ancient small animals millions of years old which have been found in Kanada in 1977. S.C. Morris discovered these animals and called them ?Hallucigenia?. Therefore Martin Waldes sculptures combine art, technology, nature and science. Besides the glass sculptures the spectator is presented with a walk through alterable installation as well as a new version of ?Production Limits? which has been shown in 2008 at the Biennale in Sevilla. The wax of the piece ?Melting Compactor? is not melted by summerly  temperatures, but by infrared light.

For many years Martin Walde has been able to include the spectators in his dynamic installation processes. He became respected when he took part in Catherine Davids ?documenta X? (1997). He explores the connection between material and artwork especially its influence on space and reaches a new form of sensory perception.

Opening Friday, the 31st of July at 7pm.

Duration: 01.August ? 18.Oktober 2009
