The Hallart Foundation was founded in 1999 by Eylard V. van Hall, emeritus professor at the Leiden University Medical Center (the Netherlands). In 2010 the Foundation became partner of Gallery Weesperzijde in Amsterdam as one of its cultural associates.
The objectives of the Hallart Foundation are: the promotion and management of contemporary art the editing and publication of art monografies. In general the foundation aims at emphasizing the importance of culture within society and politics.
The original drive to start this foundation came from the passion for fine arts, especially sculpture, in the familiar environment of the founder.
The Foundation has (co)published three books: Jurriaan van Hall (1997), Juul (2001) and Maja van Hall – In beeld (2005)
The Foundation has initiated the retrospective exhibition My work is my biography of Maja van Hall which will take place in Museum Beelden aan Zee (Scheveningen/The Hague) from 30 january till 3 June 2012.
A monography (with complete oeuvre catalogue) will appear on this occasion.
The Foundation plans to focus in the future on how to deal with the artistic legacy, sculptural pictorial and otherwise, after the decease of the artist. Should this legacy remain in the family, transferred to a foundation or a museum, spread or kept together or digitalized and eventually recycled and/or destroyed?
Hallart and sculpture network
The Sculpture Network membership of the Hallart Foundation originated from the very succesful and inspiring Xth International Forum at the Museo Guggenheim in Bilbao (Spain) from 10-12 November 2011.
The Foundation hopes to use this connection to internationalize its own objectives and to cooperate with Sculpture Network on its European activities.
