The ?Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden? of the MET in New York has become on of the most prestigious places for outside sculptures. This year the US-Sculptor Roxny Payne (1966) created a large sculpture for the spectacular garden.
?Maelstrom? is an enormous, 130-ft long and 45-ft high stainless steel sculpture. It is the largest sculpture which was ever place on top of the roof of the MET. Overlooking the woods of the central park and the large sky scrapers in the background, ?Maelstrom? shows the relationship between nature and created environment. The contrast between the ?living? trees and a scary technical-artificial world becomes apparent to the spectator.
The sculpture can still be visited until November 29th 2009 (depends on weather condition).
