Benjamin Appel gets Hector Award 2009

Benjamin Appel received the Hector Prize that is awarded for the fifth time.

The Hector Prize goes this year to 31 years young Benjamin Appel. A graduate of the National Academy of Arts in Karlsruhe surprised the jury with its geometrically balanced, sculptural space markers from "poor" materials such as concrete, earth, wood and window glass. Its precise commitments to unspectacular, incidental, fragile, light in which formal principles of classic modernism understands the jury as an original invitation to think about sculpture today. For the first time is the Hector Prize prize: Euro 10,000 for the purchase of the Kunsthalle.

The Kunsthalle Mannheim and HW & J. Hector Foundation since 1997 in the three-year cycle of the Hector Prize awarded as a special prize for three-dimensional art to younger artists in Germany.
