Every artist desires exhibitions and catalogues ? both represents the own achievements. If you can't accomplish this ? how can you realise to finance your own catalogue? Our Swiss member Adrian Bütikofer made this happen in a quite unusual way ? here we present you the result of his just finished book.
Adrian Bütikofer wanted to realise a special catalogue for some time: a book, which combines sculpture and photography. He had the first ideas over a year ago. Using photo collages he presented his sculptures in new, randomly picked spaces in Zurich. These show people in their everyday live situations how they pursue their desires and wishes. The daily routine with its intuitive encounters is an important part of his creative work. It specifies content an form of his sculptures. Through the virtual aspect of his sculptures during daily routine situations of the city the circle closes.
But how finance a book, which production costs are more than ?20.000 ? not including his effort?
It was hard work: Adrian investigated foundations, companies, collectors and friends, wrote to all of them and presented his idea. He asked for financial help in exchange for sculptures depending on the given amount. He offered companies special print runs with individual adverts ? he was able to get the help of a bank, which ordered 50 catalogues.
Thanks to the help of over 100 people Adrian was able to realise his project. It is worth noticing that he didn't get any help from public authorities, everything was privately financed.
He put special focus on content and décor it wasn't supposed to be a cheap book. Adrian wanted to publish it bilingual in English and German, thread stitched and of course it should have an ISBN number.
He was able to create an excellent book, in which Adrian Bütikofer could present his work in an excellent way. If you have questions about his topic please don't hesitate to contact adrian!
