14 – 21 Oct 2017

Archivio Emily Harvey 387 San Polo, 30125 Venice, Italy

'387' at Archivio Emily Harvey

A Game with Names and Numbers

The Curator of the exhibition, Berty Skuber, has used the address of Archivio Emily Harvey — 387 San Polo — as the basis for inviting a number of the past and present Residents of the Emily Harvey Foundation to take part in a game-like reflection on their various impressions and experiences of the Serenissima. The Book Works, for

example, collect and compare the residents’ visual and verbal responses to a series of the photographs by Berty Skuber that capture singular visual moments of the Venice cityscape. The Video Works include the reflection that Joan Logue first

created for the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Ghetto, and a series of videos by Gisela Weimann made with the music and collaboration of Pauline Oliveros, one of which, moreover, records a performance in the streets of Venice on the part of a number of other resident guests of the Emily Harvey Foundation(https://vimeo.com/104799996).

The artists who’ve contributed the Photo/Words Works were invited to offer a moment of the city as captured on their cameras, and to flank it with a biref, poetic comment.
