Gallery at the Pinakothek der Moderne - Barbara Ruetz

Sculptures by Mario Dilitz at the Gallery Ruetz

...is a new member of sculpture network

We are delighted to present to you in this newsletter the gallerist Barbara Ruetz and her gallery at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich as a new member of sculpture network. Ahead of the regional meeting and conversation with artist and sculptor sculpture network member Mario Dilitz in her gallery on 26th June 2010, we visited Barbara Ruetz in her gallery and interviewed her.

Amidst the new center for contemporary art in Munich, directly opposite the Pinakothek der Moderne and in close proximity to the new Museum Brandhorst is the gallery Ruetz. Barbara Ruetz settled here eight years ago. Before this, she exhibited near the Viktualienmarkt another seven years.

Access to the gallery is possible from two sides. Each presents the visitor a different exhibition of a contemporary artist. A concept important to the gallerist is to separate the space between the sculpture exhibition and other exhibitions in the gallery. The gallery owner wants to do justice to the international artists and always presents their works in two equivalent separate exhibitions.

Even from the outside it is clear how active the inner workings of the gallery are. Every two months, two new exhibitions by international contemporary artists are presented. Per year, therefore, the gallery presents 12 solo exhibitions, including 6 of sculpture exhibitions, which are arranged together with the artist. Since she began with this concept five years ago, and is the only gallery in Munich which presents solo sculpture exhibitions. Even nationally and internationally she has made a name for herself with this priority of the "young" sculpture, and she will maintain her gallery concept in the future.

Two days after the opening of the sculptor Mario Dilitz (A), the gallerist organized and moderated the discussion with the artist for the invited guests of sculpture network. A coincidence that Mario Dilitz is already a member of sculpture network. For the charming and unpretentious businesswoman, it was a quick decision to join and also immediately actively participate, such as the regional meeting she hosted just one month after joining sculpture network. Barbara Ruetz obviously has a lot of fun with networking, so it is no wonder that she has already brought together many people.

Future exhibitions of the gallery have already been planned through the end of 2011. The direct presentation of an Asian artist on site, as was the case during our gallery visit, is thus rather the exception, and was possible only on a particular recommendation, according to the gallerist. Usually, works for an exhibition are selected by catalog and on written application of over 700 applicants by a 6-member jury. For the selection, it is important to Barbara Ruetz that the technical brilliance and artistic ideas match and fascinate. She exhibited in the previous years works such as, for example, the wooden sculptures by Christian Rösner, the extremely abstract and colorful oil paintings of Gotlind Timmerman, the sketches and oil paintings of an Antarctic voyage from Gerhard Rießbeck, the sculptures and paintings by Riusuke Fukahori and Susanne Zuehlke, with whom she is represented for seven years since the foundation of Art Karlsruhe. We were therefore able to look forward to a lively exchange with the competent and experienced gallery owner whose fun and active participation in networking was not to be overlooked.
