"FUSO" (WV 773) and "SPOLA" (WV 774)
circulation 50

The scuptor Herbert Mehler, born in 1949 in Steinau near Fulda, has his studios in Berlin and Riedenheim near Würzburg. He works with Corten steel, but gained prominence with drawings and graphic works. The exhibition shows a total of 11, some monumental, exhibits and provides a good overview of the artist's work. A richly illustrated catalog is available.

The joint exhibition was first presented from February to May at the Kunsthalle in Schweinfurt, and will be presented from 5 June until 6 November in the Sculpture Park in Heidelberg, after which it will be taken over by the Kusthalle Erfurt in summer 2012.

The sculptures by Herbert Mehler make clear reference to nature with their cylindrical body, spindles, circles, spheres and spirals. Focus is on the work groups “Kavex" and, since 2010, the new "Apsida sculptures".

In addition, on the occasion of the exhibition, a small monogrammed and numbered special edition of the artist was developed, namely the pair of sculptures "Fuso" and "Spola" (height 17 cm), that can be purchased from the Sculpture Park of Heidelberg.

The Sculpture Park in Heidelberg is a nonprofit organization, which started its activities in 1995. It has 23 outdoor sculptures that are placed in the garden and park at the Orthopaedic University Hospital Heidelberg. They include works of major German and some international sculptors of the 20th Century as well as the present. The offerings of the sculpture park are aimed at patients and visitors to the clinic and are a contribution to the arts and cultural life of the city of Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region. The patron of the sculpture park is the Mayor of Heidelberg, Dr. Eckart Würzner.
