The biggest art exhibition in Northern Europe - 22,000 square meters exhibition space in the halls of the closed Carlshütte and 60,000 square meters of park sculptures invite artists and art lovers from all over the world.
The founding idea of the annual symposium is to encourage discussion, share experiences and learn from one another. The symposium presents Art in the Carlshütte (KiC in its German acronym), confined in the early years to sculpture and three years ago expanded to include the art forms of painting and installation.
Now, at the Nord Art 2010 in Büdelsdorf, in the north of Germany, 245 artists from 55 countries exhibit their pictures, photographs, videos, sculptures and installations in front of the unique scenery of the Büdelsdorf Carlshütte until October 3rd. Nearly 2,000 visitors celebrated the opening on 12 June, and more than 100 artists from around the world attended.
Nord Art, by far the largest art exhibition in Northern Europe, is organized by the KiC - Art in the Carlshütte, the non-profit initiative of the ACO Group, and the cities Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg. For twelve years now the 22,000-square-foot warehouses of the old foundry (built in 1827 and closed in 1997) create a unique venue for art, supplemented by a 60,000-square-metre sculpture garden, the ACO coach house and the old dairy farm now used as an exhibition Café. Even public spaces in the urban area are included. The Nord Art was conceptualized in 1999 by Hans-Julius Ahlmann (Managing Partner of the ACO Group) and Wolfgang Grams (KiC CEO), and is staged anew annually. This year, 1400 artists from 81 countries applied to participate.
For the first time this year, a jury will select the winner of the €10,000 Nord Art Prize, donated by the AGO group. The first Nord Art Award will be awarded in late September. In addition, the public will make their own choices and by ballot paper vote distinguish a particular artist with the Audience’s Choice prize.
The Nord Art 2010 exhibition is open until October 3, Monday through Sunday, 11:00 - 19:00. Accompanying the exhibition is a German-English catalogue introducing each artist with text and pictures.
