Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venedig (I)

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is presenting the sculpture ?Torre?, the latest piece of artist Wim Delvoy, for this year?s biennale. On the terrace of the Palazzo Venier die Leoni you can experience the Tower made of corten-steel, which overlooks the Canale Grande with its gothic style windows and towers. Until September 20

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venetia is one of the five Guggenheim-Museums which are enclosed in the Guggenheim Foundation. It has been founded by the legendary art collector Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979). The core of her collection she put together between 1938 and 1947. It consists of many important pieces especially from the cubism, surrealism and abstract expressionism.th century next to the Canale Grande, the Palazzo Nenier dei Leoni, and lived there for 30 years until she opened it as a museum. 1979 she donated the palace and her collection to the Guggenheim Foundation which renovated the palace and established a climate and security system. The museum has been expanded between 1993 and 1995 by a wing which hosts changing exhibitions. The Guggenheim Foundation also focuses on the USA Pavilion of the biennale which it bought in 1986 from the MOMA New York. This year Bruce Nauman is representing the USA with ?Tropological Gardens?. th the Palazzo will show the exhibition ?Robert Rauschenberg: Gluts? with 40 sculptures out of international collections. Until the end of the year you can also visit an exhibition about Italian futurism. In 1995 the gallery opened the Nasher Sculpture garden: here you can see one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary sculptures with sculptures from the Peggy Guggenheim collections and pieces out of the famous collection of Raymond and Patsy Nasher. This collection is constantly changing and there will be many new pieces on display this year.
