The association of restorers invites everyone who is interested on 25. & 26, September to the Kunsthalle Mannheim for a symposium, which focuses on restoration of collections of modern and contemporary art.

The idea of this symposium was born since outside sculptures are often badly restored. Even when it is known that they are especially exposed to weather and vandalism.

Firstly the focus is on preventative conservation of sculptures in general. That includes documentation, care, assembly, handling as well as protection to theft, vandalism and weather.

There will be case studies for restoration. Especially modern and contemporary sculptures are difficult to restore because of different materials and new ways manufacturing techniques.

There will be a discussion about the possibilities and also the limits of restoration.

Saturday the 26.09.2009 will be an interdisciplinary discussion with restorers, scientists and artists. The symposium will be closing with a tour through the sculpture park of the Kunsthalle Mannheim.
