The power of art in a museum without walls

In June 2011, the 3-D Foundation opened the stunning new sculpture park as an artist's residence for foreign artists in Verbier in the Swiss Alps. The Alps are the backdrop and inspiration for the artists. For five weeks from 20 May to 25 June 2011, international sculptors along with established artists were invited to the Swiss mountains to create monumental sculptures for the park.

Co-founder and artist Madeleine Paternot aims to achieve an international dialogue and a new platform for public art in the Alps. The power of the mountains should correspond with the energy of artists from different cities. Paul Goodwin, curator of contemporary art at Tate Britain, curated the first edition of the Artist Residency.

The participating artists are: Gregory Coates (New York), Donna Dodson (Boston), Timothy Holmes (London), Musa Hixson (Brooklyn), Andy Moerlein (Boston), Kiki Thompson (Verbier), and Zak Ové (London).

The sculptures will be exhibited at an altitude of 2,300 meters between La Chaux and Ruinettes for 12 months. Depending on the season, completely new impressions will be possible. The park extends approximately 3 kilometers.

Additionally invited to Verbier: Nathalie Delhaye, Etienne Krähenbühl, Edouard Faro, André Raboud, Josette Taramarcaz and Will Ryman.

The 3-D Foundation was founded by Madeleine Paternot (artist from New York) and Kiki Thompson (sculptor from Verbier).
